Over the years many bottom finishes have been experimented with to reduce hydrodynamic frictional drag on boats to increase speed.
The work has broken down into two separate lines of reasoning. The first being the attempt to reduce the coefficient of friction of the surface to allow water to slide past the surface with less drag. The second, based on the belief that water slides on water with the least amount of drag so the surface should be coated with something that assures it is fully wetted.
We have included in this department a collection of the current known bottom finishes that fit into either of these thought processes.
