A white crystalline powder.  Odorless.  Hygroscopic.

 

Soluble in cold water, glycerol.  Slightly soluble in alcohol.

 

Commonly used in older technology dry cell batteries.  Also

 

used as the active ingredient in soldering fluxes, fertilizers, and

 

urea-formaldehyde adhesives.
