Detailed Product Description:
CalgonateŽ is an effective 2.5% topical calcium gluconate gel that is
used for Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) burns to the body. The active ingredient,
calcium gluconate in CalgonateŽ, combines with hydrofluoric acid to
neutralize the powerful fluoride ion.
The immediate use of calcium gluconate gel has been known to be extremely
beneficial in reducing burn damage to bone and deep tissue, and helps relieve
pain almost immediately.
CalgonateŽ contains Calcium Gluconate USP 2.5% w/w in a clear, viscous,
colorless and odorless miscible water gel base. It is indicated as an integral
part in relieving dermal Hydrofluoric Acid burns. The immediate application
of the topical gel to the burn site reduces burn damage to the bone and deep tissue.
Dosage and Administration:
It is highly recommended to wash/flush the area with cool water for 15 to 20
minutes (5 minutes if Calgonate is readily available) to remove Hydrofluoric
Acid residue. Then apply CalgonateŽ freely to the affected areas and continuously
massage into the skin. Reapply Calgonate and massage into the affected area
every 15 minutes, until medical assistance is given.
If the acid has penetrated below the nails, CalgonateŽ should be liberally applied
over and around the nail area, and the area should be continually massaged for
15 minutes.
All HF burns should be referred to a hospital after washing and starting initial
first-aid procedures with CalgonateŽ.
