Detailed Product Description:
Glycolic Acid (hydroxyacetic acid) is the first member of the series of
alpha-hydroxy carboxylic acids, which means it is one of the smallest
organic molecules with both acid and alcohol functionality.
Combustible but not considered a fire hazard. Soluble in water, alcohol,
and ether.
Uses:
Commonly used in chemical milling, cleaning, and polishing of metals,
and in copper pickling solutions. Also used in the cosmetic industry in
skin peels.
Brand, Grade & Purity:
Although Glycolic Acid occurs naturally as a trace component in
sugarcane, beets, grapes and fruits, DuPont synthesizes the product
through a purpose-built manufacturing facility.
This is a technical grade product in a 70% solution forming a straw-
colored liquid with an odor of burnt sugar with a minimum of 98.5%
purity.
Precautions:
This concentration can cause severe and immediate burns to skin
eyes, and mucous membranes. Reacts with most metals to release
flammable hydrogen gas.
